Why I Created This Website

Although at this stage in my life I'm totally focused on residential real estate, and I truly love what I do, I won't be doing it forever.  We all retire, and some day, Rhonda and I will do just that and disappear into the sunset.

When that happens, you'll be able to find us at some beautiful resort area where the weather's always perfect.  I'll be teaching and coaching junior tennis again, something I've missed terribly since my earlier days.  This website is dedicated to that next phase in my life, so I'm getting an early start.

My Goal For The Site

I want to make the site as comprehensive as possible, taking a player from the very basics all the way through to tournament level.  It will be a slow work of progress as I can only spend time on it when time permits.   Winter is our slowest time of year, which is why I'm starting it now, but come Spring, I'm sure the work on it will slow down or stop.

I'll start with the very basics, the different grips, why I prefer a more neutral (called continental) grip and why you are limiting your court abilities with the extreme grips we all see so much of these days.   I'll start out discussing the pros and cons (and believe me, there are both) of the single and two handed backhand.  I'll talk about top spin and underspin (also called slice), why it's so important to be able to hit both, and how to counter-act it when you see it coming at you.

If my knees and ankles hold up, I'll continue adding short illustrative clips on every shot in the game.  Drop volleys, passing shots, top spin lobs, scissor kick overheads, kicking serves, reverse twist overheads, you name it.   Once I've completed that, I'll explain how to hit the shot, but just as importantly, when to hit it during  point.

We'll also deal with conditioning and fundamental.  Everything in tennis revolves around both.  I'll share some things you can do without a set of weights in the comfort of your home, even while you're driving or watching tv, that will strengthen the muscles you need to hit a lot of the shots I'll be talking about.

I'll talk about strategy and court positioning, both for singles and doubles.  I'll share some thoughts on the mental side of the game and recount some of my experiences about players who could never match up with me physically, but beat me mentally.  I'll tell you how to look for and exploit a player's weaknesses.  Every player has them, some just do a better job of hiding them than others.  But they're there.

If your goal is to improve your tennis game, I hope you'll be able to pick something up that might help you along the way.  Please check back periodically as I build the site.
